Westnewton
The proposed wind farm is located on working farm land between the villages of Aspatria and Westnewton in Cumbria. The proposal, which comprises three turbines, each with a tip height of 107m, was recently granted planning permission by a Government Inspector following completion of a five day Public Inquiry during December 2010. Broadview Energy is now looking to begin construction on site as soon as possible, with a view to exporting clean, sustainable electricity to the local grid network.
Once it has been commissioned, it is anticipated that the wind farm will generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of 3,538 households in the area. It will also lead to the displacement of electricity and associated carbon emissions generated by fossil fuelled power stations. Furthermore, Broadview intends to set up a community fund to support local community groups and projects with between £12,000 and £18,000 each year over the wind farm’s 25 year lifetime. If you have any suggestions for this fund, please contact us.
